pETWORTH

Enjoy Petworth, the South Downs and the surrounding area

The Surrounding Area

The beautiful Shimmings Valley is a stone throw from the cottage and with Petworth House and Deer Park just across the road it is a walkers paradise. Petworth town centre is just a 5 minute walk away from the cottage and with its fair share of coffee shops, restaurants, pubs lots of art galleries, antiques and  boutique shops. Over the road is Petworth House and Deer Park, a 17th century stately home now owned by the National Trust, and contains the finest art collection.  It also has a beautiful deer park for wonderful country walks and a great coffee shop. The cottage is just 10 minutes drive from Cowdray (the home of polo) with a farm and coffee shop. The Weald and Downland Living Museum (location of the TV show “The Repair Shop”) is 20 minutes drive away and is also dog friendly. Arundel with its fairytale castle is a 20 minutes drive and well worth a visit.

Eating & Drinking

There are numerous restaurants and coffee shops within walking distance of the cottage. . It is important to note that they are not necessarily open for food every day, so we do recommend phoning ahead just in case. It is advisable to book for restaurants. Most establishments are dog friendly.

Places worth a visit in and around Petworth

There are many places to visit in Petworth and the surrounding area:
• The Shimming Valley: behind the Cottage. Best access from the Cottage is a very short walk along North Street, turning left into Barton Lane. A new tarred footpath provides a nice vantage point of the valley. If approaching from Petworth centre, keeping the church car park on your right hand side. You will then see the footpath signs in front of you. Going straight we think is the best option !
