Cobblers Cottage At A Glance
A traditional and spacious (1,100 sq ft) 2 bedroom family and dog friendly cottage (formally a cobblers cottage) in a great position opposite Petworth Park.
Lower ground floor (with access to outside) features a spacious country kitchen / dining room, utility room and a shower room. The ground floor (also with outside access) offers a formal sitting room with sofas and an open fireplace. A second snug room, with a smart tv sofas, books, games, xbox 360 and dvd library and a small games / activity table. Bed linen, towels and wifi are provided.
The first floor offers 2 well proportioned bedrooms (1 king size; 1 twin), and a family bathroom with a hand held shower.
Outside there is a large pretty walled garden with a variety of borders and offers a BBQ and outside seating area.
Please note: the property is set over three levels with uneven floors and may not be suitable for less mobile guests. Whilst the cottage is conveniently situated to walk into Petworth, it is situated on a busy road but has double glazing as well as secondary glazing in the bedrooms.
With a short walk into Petworth, the cottage is ideally situated to access the local restaurants, bars, coffee shops and Petworth House directly opposite the cottage.
Up to 2 small dogs are welcome and larger dog breeds on request (please check if unsure).
There is an allocated parking space to the rear of the properties which is accessed via the footpath past the other cottages.
A great location within easy reach of Chichester, Goodwood, Arundel, Midhurst (Cowdray), the South Downs and the Sussex coast.

Comfortable Cottage
“As history goes, in 1861 James Saunders was living in Fig Tree Cottage with his wife and 5 children. He was a shoemaker by trade and the house was known for many years as “the wooden legged house”. After James’s death, the house passed to Sidney Meacham, also a shoemaker – hence the “cobbler” theme that can be seen scattered throughout the cottage.
We bought Fig Tree Cottage in late June 2021 (renamed “Cobblers Cottage”) and set about rejuvenating it to create what we think is a comfortable place to stay, including the usual 21st century gadgets but also trying to retain the quintessential feel of a typical English cottage on the edge of the South Downs. We love the relaxed “feel” of the cottage (we hope you do too!), the walks into the Shimming Valley, Petworth House & Park, the close proximity to Cowdray, the charms of the South Downs and the Goodwood car and horse shows … and don’t forget to visit Arundel. Slow down, relax, pick a book, choose a movie (even a classic oldie), play with the kids, and if the weather is kind, have a BBQ in the garden.

We had the most wonderful stay. The cottage is deceptively large and thought was evident throughout. We loved our stay and so did our little working cocker. I could not highly recommend Cobblers Cottage enough, although it is situated on a busy road, we slept incredibly well and the garden was such a delight. Will definitely be back. My friend and I stayed at Cobblers Cottage in Petworth and I cannot recommend this particular property highly enough! We have self-catered many times in the past but, without doubt, Cobblers Cottage was by far the most comfortable, cosy, well appointed place - with the most generous Welcome Hamper - that we have ever experienced. Excellent location with plenty to see and do in the area. We hope to return in the near future !
